Somatic Therapy

Somatic therapy is a body-aware approach to counselling and psychotherapy that recognizes the inseparable connection between emotional experience, the nervous system, and the body. In my work, somatic therapy supports greater awareness of how experiences are held and expressed physically, often offering access to insight and change that is not always available through words alone.

Rather than focusing on techniques or symptom reduction, somatic work invites a slower, more attuned way of noticing what is happening within you and how your body responds to stress, emotion, and relationship.

How Somatic Therapy Informs My Work

In my practice, somatic therapy is woven into a relational and trauma-informed approach rather than offered as a standalone method. Together, we may attend to sensations, breath, movement, posture, or subtle shifts in energy as they arise naturally in the course of therapy.

This body-based awareness can help:

  • Increase emotional regulation and nervous system flexibility

  • Support processing of experiences that feel difficult to articulate

  • Deepen self-understanding and presence

  • Strengthen the connection between inner experience and outward action

Somatic work is always guided collaboratively and introduced with care, respecting your pace and sense of safety.

Who This Approach May Be Helpful For

Somatic therapy may be a good fit if you:

  • Feel disconnected from your body or emotional experience

  • Notice stress, anxiety, or tension showing up physically

  • Have experienced trauma or overwhelming events

  • Find it difficult to access or express emotions through words alone

  • Are curious about a more embodied and integrative approach to therapy

This approach often resonates with people who sense that “something lives in the body” and want support in understanding and relating to that experience with greater compassion.

What Sessions Can Look Like

Somatic therapy unfolds within the same relational and reflective space as the rest of my work. Sessions may involve moments of slowing down, tracking bodily sensations, or noticing how emotions and thoughts are experienced physically.

Rather than directing the body or pushing for release, the emphasis is on awareness, curiosity, and integration. Over time, this can support a greater sense of grounding, agency, and ease in both internal experience and relationships.

How This Fits Within My Practice

Somatic therapy is one of several perspectives that inform my work alongside Internal Family Systems and humanistic approaches. These frameworks complement one another, supporting both inner awareness and relational connection.
